Modal Phrases
Mode fingerprints as short playable shapes. Hear how Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian reveal themselves through intervals.
Each card is a modal fingerprint — a short ordered string of scale degrees and
semitone offsets from a tonic. 1 b2 b3 reads as Phrygian, 1 3 #4
as Lydian, 1 b3 b6 as Aeolian. Shapes split two ways:
Cells are interval vocabularies, while Gestures are fixed
contours whose direction is part of the sound.
Set Key and Octave on each card to transpose the mode shape. On Cells, BPM and Grid (1/4 · 1/8 · 1/16) drive how Shuffle creates rhythmic variations. Pick a global Timbre to swap the instrument across the catalog. Toggle Tab ↔ Note to read each shape as guitar tab or staff notation; the slot grid lines up in both. Filter by mode or by form (Cells / Gestures) to narrow the catalog.
